.Docx and .Xlsx viewer for Office 2000

(1/2) > >>

doc_retro:
FYI - Panergy software sells a $20.00 application that lets MS Office 2000 (Word & Excel) open .docx and .xlsx files.  Unlike Office 2004, for which Microsoft offers a reader add-on, Office 2000 cannot be updated to read files made in Office 2007/8 & newer.  I bought the Panergy software, and in my experience, spanning a year of light usage, I'd say that it works 95% or more of the time.  (Very large files w/embedded macros may be the culprits in the handful of times a student's paper has failed to convert.)
I run Office 2000 w/Panergy on a PowerBook G3/266 Wallstreet.

Well what we would need it as well a possibility for .odt files as for the totally crazy new RTF. I hate them more than ever before for changing a 25 year old, well working exchange format to a new standard. They broke up all interoperability with that. Even in Open Office you have to select now "RTF for Old Computers" what a pity (again: for a exchange format).

Sadly Pangery cannot help us as they told me 2 years ago, ... perhaps if more people ask them?
In every case their "converter" is nice and wirth the $20 if you need to work with such files.

torvan:
it is an OSX only app too, so not handy for us running 9.2.2 and using Office 2001.

torvan, there is a docXConverter program for Mac OS 9 too! Sadly http://www.panergy-software.com/ seems to be gone. Here is a recently working  download: http://www.tucows.com/preview/513041
