iBook Clamshell
« on: February 18, 2014, 05:10:27 AM »
One of my old clamshells just found its way back into my collection after a few years.
It's the 366MHz model, without firewire. I have installed a 256MB module, an AirPort card, and a 40GB hdd. I used to use it for some old games at the time i first had it, even browsed the web, all kinds of things. I even installed Tiger on it using Xpostfacto to bypass the absence of the firewire controller. Nowadays i'm thinking of turning it into an OS9 machine.
What apps would you guys put on the old timer? It's still in pretty good condition considering its age, and works great. I'm even thinking about getting a new battery for it, just for the sake of it.
So, what do you guys think? What neat ideas would you have for this one?

Thanks Chris. I'm gonna look for those. Any other thoughts anyone? Any other software you would put on this machine?

And so that i don't open another topic:
What would you guys install on a PowerBook 3400c? It's the 200MHz model, i have the maximum ram possible on it, 144MB, a 60GB hdd and it runs 9.1.
I have found some old versions of photoshop, dreamweaver and stuff like that.

I used to love those famous "Toilet Seat" Notebooks (That is what we called them back in the day)... It can run lots of stuff, just get it to 512MB (I think I remember getting them that high, but you gotta use PC100, PC133 does not work)

I know about the ram. Actually, this is the 7th iBook i had. All but this one got upgraded to the maximum amount of memory which they support. I'll get a 512 module at the end of the week i think.
Regarding the pics Chris posted, funny thing is that tangerine is the only "flavour" of clamshell i've never owned...
The one i'm talking about here is a graphite model.

Very nice! I have a graphite Clamshell that I got for free as a college intern, because the IT department I worked in, had plans of recycling it. Had I not asked my supervisor if I could keep it (and he obliged), the iBook would have found its way to a scrap yard. The hard drive is a bit loud and I cannot charge the battery, but the computer is otherwise flawless. Being an avid techno musician, I'd say that ReBirth RB-338 is my most frequently used program on the iBook.
Computers:
- PowerBook G4 [2005] - Mac OS 10.4.11 installed; Classic environment also installed
- Lenovo IdeaPad Flex 14 [2019] - Windows 10 installed; primary computer

Consoles: NES, Super NES, Sega Genesis, PS1, Dreamcast, PS2 Slim, GameCube, PS3 Slim (slot loader)
Handhelds: Handspring Visor Deluxe, Nintendo DS Lite, almost every US-released Game Boy, from original Game Boy to Game Boy Micro
