Stuffit not opening *.sit files OS 9.22
« on: December 11, 2022, 06:56:48 AM »

I have downloaded a few files with *.sit extensions on Macos 9.22 and had no problem with extracting the contents. However there have been several files that fail to extract due to the following alert:

Couldn't Display
"filename.sit" because a suitable graphics importer could not be found.

I tried an internet search but results seem almost exclusively directed at opening stuffit files on OS X. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

It sounds like the wrong application is getting launched.

Stuffit does not "display" "graphics" at all!

Don't double-click the archive, instead drag it onto the Expander icon.

Yes, do this.

Did you download using Classilla, and do the files have a graphics icon, and are being opened by GraphicConverter or something? I have had this issue intermittently but not worked out why yet...

That is what confused me. However the suggestion to open stuffit expander and then extract the file makes sense.

I did download the file with Classilla. Your suggestion tends to describe my experience.
