Does this exist?
« on: August 14, 2022, 06:05:54 PM »
This seems like the closest forum for what I'm looking for, I guess...

I'm trying to live stream an audio input over LAN.

For example, Nicecast in OS X creates a .m3u file and adds it to my G4's local site, which I can then download to any device on my network and hear a live broadcast of whatever's coming through the line input, like a record on my turntable for instance. It's very convenient and seamless.

Does something like this exist for OS 9? Done some digging and can't seem to find anything...

Many thanks!
Power Mac G4 MDD Dual 1.25 GHz / TASCAM FW-1804

I was able to answer "the server part of VLC" but dspite its life starting in 1996, I only found builds for OS X  ???

The next step is: what did Apple used in the 90's to stream events that were watched using the QuickTime client?
Ti 1 GHz / 1 GB / FW SSD / Airport Extreme PCMCIA (triple boot)
Alu 12 1.5GHz / 1.5 GB / 256 GB mSata SSD (dual boot for now)

I'm trying to live stream an audio input over LAN.
Of course you can stream with Mac OS 9 computers.

As far as I remember MacAmp can stream, but I am not sure from which sources.

What you are searching for is Sorenson Broadcaster:
"Sorenson Broadcaster is the first live audio and video broadcasting tool to
support Apple Computers QuickTime technology. Available for Mac OS,
Sorenson Broadcaster enables developers to compress video and audio in
real-time for distribution on LANs and the Internet."

For "Multicast" you do not need any other server software (like QuickTime server)

see the attached .pdf
One version is available at the garden https://macintoshgarden.org/apps/sorenson-broadcaster

Another possibility would be "Live Channel" from Channel Storm:
It is a software for video broadcasts that lets you select several different audio sources.
The latest version for Mac OS 9 is 1.4.2

And there are for sure several other programs that can be used for streaming. I remember some "Radio-Station" programs for example.
