Keyboard startup
« on: March 22, 2022, 11:35:33 AM »

Hello,
I've a G4 MDD (FW400) with os9.1 and I'd like to be able to get it to start up remotely. I've heard that with some Macs it's possible to start up from the keyboard. Anyone know if this is possible with the G4?
Thanks

While there have been some Macs with power buttons on the kbd, the MDD is not one of them.
There is a "soft power" line in the ADC display circuit. The ADC-connected Studio and Cinema displays had a slick touch-sensitive power button on the front. So, solution: Find and buy a Cinema Display.

Nice info GaryN !

@velvetcave
About starting up from keyboard, I shared a (french) link that explain the "trick":

About remote boot, maybe we can check Wake-on-LAN by putting the G4 in sleep mode ...  but there are some things to checks as read here:

one could extend the cables of the G4s power button, lead it out and mount the whole button device on the table.

beein doing that with the the volume potentiometer of a hifi amp in my first studio. ;)

That's my plan B! I have a couple of spares I could use to avoid butchering my workhorse too much.

That sounds like it, there's one in St Neots for £50, perfect. Cheers GaryN

Most of my DAW stuff is in the next room behind a wall and even though I have to go in there to fire up the interfaces and drives it still feels kinda kool to start the QS from the keyboard! Love it!!!haha! ;D
