Quicksilver Video Problem

I have a curious problem with my Quicksilver, which is powered by a dual 800 Mhz card (thank you again Fury).  The video card is an ATI Radeon 9000 Pro.  I run MacOS 9.2.2 on one partition and Mac OS X 10.5.8 on the other.  Until tonight I used a cheap Vizio LCD (model: um-d24hnd1) and was able to boot back and forth between both systems without any problem.  Tonight I hooked up an LG HDR 4k (LG27UK-850W) and, while I was able to boot into Mac OS X just fine, but every time I tried to boot into MacOS 9 I ended up with a gray screen.  I zapped the PRAM, tried to change the resolutions, ran disk utility diagnostics, etc. but to no avail.  I still can not get MacOS 9 to show on this LCD.  Any suggestions?  Thank you very much.

IF you’ve tried all of the listed settings (image from Radeon Pro User manual) to no avail. Then you might try the CD-ROM download …OR the ATI OS9 Mac Software updater from the 2nd link below.
Perhaps a driver update is warranted?

This also states that the 9200 might also require the “latest ATI ROM Xtender” (not available within the 2005 Updater).

Likely you are running up against the 165mhz limit of the R9000 TMDS or some weird issue related to the OS 9 'NDRV'. Make sure you have the latest drivers from ATI.

If you still have issues with those drivers try trashing the OS 9 monitor preference file from within OS X and rebooting OS 9 in safe mode, ie shift key at boot.

We had this issue with the Mini G4 and the 'NDRV' from Mac OS X 10.3.9 and later and we had to settle with the NDRV from 10.3.7.

If none of that works I can try and make you a custom 'NDRV' for OS 9 from the OS X drivers.

The 'NDRV', DDC, and EDID are related, this monitor is just so much newer than OS 9 that something is just getting crossed up when OS 9 is trying to find a proper screen resolution for a 4k display.

I have occasionally experienced some monitors preventing boot-up, albeit with completely different hardware to this particular case.
One workaround I found is to boot up with the working monitor, then switch the connection to the desired monitor. Sometimes it works fine!

Re-installation of the ATI drivers did the trick.  Thank you ovalking, darthnVader and FBz!
