Hello, new around here but not to macs
« on: January 31, 2014, 03:19:16 PM »
Hello, I've been an off and on classic mac user for a while, decided to get my hands on an ibook G3/800 just to run 9.2.2 natively versus in classic on my 17" G4.

OS9 lover, amature photographer/video editor.

Some Examples of my photography, for now i use my phone camera, saving up to get a decent DSLR, but these photos show what i can do with a simple phone. the first photo was taken with my old Motorola Droid X, the Mantis was taken with my Nokia Lumia 810

None of the above. Right now i don't use the mac for anything. First i don't have the iBook G3 yet, second is that i use my PC for the editing. I've used Windows movie maker here and there. My desktop is a core 2 quad 2.4ghz which helps render it faster.

With photos...I rarely run them through a program, I take them as they are, i don't feel that photoshop makes an improvement in my photos, since it reduces the moment of the photo in my eyes. Neither of those photos were edited in any way shape or form, taken as is with my equipment.

it is the 2002 iBook G3/800 Combo Drive, and not sure on the keyboard, i'd expect it to lack one due to being an iBook

So, the mac came in today. I booted it up, popped in the 9.2.2 disc and found out that the installer for 9.2.2 is only from within X and that it doesn't really work on 10.4.11. Thankfully my Powerbook G4 came with 10.2.4 on a DVD and it works just fine.

So, for those of you who are intersted in the iBook G3 aka powerbook 4,3. You will need a copy of X to even install 9

Not true. I have the retail version of MacOS 9 on a disk and it works just fine. Funny thing is i have a 9.2.2 disk and the only machine that could not use it to install the system was an old clamshell. I have used that 9.2.2 disk to install the os on most of my ppc machines, including the dual g4 quicksilver. I don't know what is "wrong" with it, but it works.

Many retails will (some you have to turn extensions off on boot) and the universal drag install we have in out download area works with every G3 / G4 Made (but you will need and ext. FireWire drive or another mac that you can put into target mode, which basically turns it into a FW drive) to achieve the install :)

I apologize for the kitchen counter shots, but that is the only place i could take these photos that had enough light that would not throw my flash off.
