Help with installing OS 9 into my 2002 iMac G4
« on: June 25, 2021, 05:33:35 AM »
Greetings

So I recently found a 2002 iMac G4 (PowerMac4,5 according to System Profiler) at a Thrift Store for $20. I'm trying to reinstall OS 9, But everytime I try to install OS 9.2.2 via the Universal Image, All I get is a Black Screen with Cursor on my Screen, Is there anything I can do to get this Beloved System on my newly acquired Sunflower Mac? (I wanna be able to play the Pangaea Software titles of my Youth)

There are basic questions to be answered here.
Are you trying to install the OS via the CD drive? Of course you are.

Question #1: How do you know if the drive even works?
The whole thing was $20 after all…

Question #2: Is there any OS on it now? Does it boot at all?
If yes, what does System profiler say about the CD drive?
If No, what does happen when you power it on?

Question 2-1/2: What did you use to burn the CD?
Is it properly formatted? Did you use a (gulp) PC?

A black screen with OR without a cursor is uncommon on any Mac. It should at least be gray.
While you're pondering the CD drive questions, say a little prayer for the grafix chip.

#1 It DOES Work. I guess it was the Media that I was using at the time (I WAS using CD-RWs :p)
#2 It Had Jaguar on it. But I have since upgraded it to Tiger an managed to install OS 9 via the NetBoot method
#2½ I used TransMac on my Windows 10 Tower

I'm happy to have gotten my Sunflower Mac to play the Pangaea Software games of my Youth

Thanks for Replying :D
