System 7 Today is back! This time under new management!
« on: February 13, 2021, 05:59:23 AM »
Five years ago, the entirety of System 7 Today was placed in a frozen state, a terrible fate for any site.
Though all was not lost. Dan, the sites founder, made sure to keep the site on life support.

While it continued to bring back nostalgia and happiness over the years - along with its many articles, guides and files,
the lack of updates and locked down discussion board left many of us wanting just a bit more.

So, I am pleased to announce that System 7 Today has finally woken up and joined the Macintosh Garden family with me and Bolkonskij at the wheel.

The site has been updated with new content, the forum moved to a new and modern backbone (no more phpBB2),
but with a HTML4 compliant template, so it is browsable and usable on even the most low end of low end machines.

We are aiming at binging you more System 7 centric content for years to come!
Go check it out at http://system7today.com :).

I know that some of you here where active on the old System 7 Today forums; your account is still there as well as your posts!
All the passwords have been reset though for security reasons, so you need to use the "I forgot my password" function to acquire a new password.

I hope it's alright that I post this here. We are after all one big family (the Classic Mac community)

Excellent news! I use System 7 as my main OS so this will help. Thanks for keeping it alive!

I just have to add how happy and grateful I am that I can help to bring S7T back and keep it online. I've been a regular since the mid 2000's and learned a lot from it. While I love Mac OS9, I adore System 7 (mostly for nostalgic reasons I guess) and it still has so much potential in it - if you know how to use it.

If you look at it from a broader perspective, it is the perfect complement for Mac OS9 Lives. A younger sibling so to say. (thus we link to macos9lives.com on our about page too!)

Thanks! Although I use MacOS8.1 even with 68k, but now I feel that I install both to next installation.
Anyway pages are good for all System7-MacOS9.2.2 users.
And pages are good because they work good old web browsers.

Awesome job, many pre-OSX site are dying off, to resurrect one is a welcome accomplishment,

For those interested, they can burn a CD here...

Just wanted to chime in that we keep adding new stuff to System 7 Today. The latest addition is a developer centric Hotline server where you can find dev tools as well as source code. The archive is growing every day.

Jump in and join us for a nice Mac centric chat :)

I've never heard of System 7 Today, but looking at it, it's everything I could have ever dreamed it was in terms of layout and proportions, and I hope it never changes. I don't have any computers that run 7, 8.6 is the oldest they can do, but I'll keep an eye out on eBay for a 6100.

A friendly reminder that our Hotline server is still up and running with a lot of good content and some friendly people hanging out, ready to chat :)
Recently moved to a new server that is Hotline 1.9 compatible, so we now boost all the Hotline features there ever was. Great collaboration platform as well.

IIO, the Hotline problems are solved and everything works like it should now.
We're working on a nice gopher space for System 7 Today as well.

Point your gopher client to gopher://gopher.system7today.com to check it out :)
