(Display Issue) Mac Mini G4 booting with your OS 9, but....
« on: November 25, 2020, 08:38:45 AM »
Hi!!

I got an old Mac Mini in a brillant condition. Then installed your latest OS 9 release for this little machine and it works.
But my Full HD Dell Display shows the error, that the signal and frequency is not allowed. It should be not higher then 60 Hz.

So i got an very old dusty 4:3 monitor and this works like it was 1999 :-)

However, i think i need some modification in the system to tell OS 9 to run in a resolution that my display can handle.

Appreciate any help!
All the best from Germany!!

Try this:   http://macintoshgarden.org/apps/switchres

Make sure you read and follow the instructions carefully!  It's easy to create a situation where you select the wrong undisplayable res and then you can't switch it back because you can't see what you're doing.

Thank you for the tipp!

I installed SwitchRes 2 and set it up according to the display. But the setting i made do not survive the boot process.
When OS 9 boots up, i see the extension list growing from left to right as usual, and when it finishes booting, my screen goes black with the error message about unsupported timing that i mentioned above.

EDIT: Success! I had to reset the PR on this Mac, now its working.
