Hello from Scotland.
« on: October 28, 2020, 04:53:36 AM »
Hi,

I’ve been a Mac user for over 20 years now, ever since owning, working with, repairing and programming for Windows drove me to the point where I just couldn’t bare to look at it anymore for my personal use.

So I switched to Mac, and began to wonder why I didn’t make the change long before I did.

But that’s ancient history, well, it was until recently when I decided, for god knows what reason, that I missed OS 9 - you know, other than SimCity :D

My oldest fully functioning Mac being my iMac G4 (USB 2.0), my mission to get OS 9 running natively began. Much frustration later, my searches led me here, and wow, you guys have done some amazing work.

I can get OS 9 installed and running almost perfectly, the only hurdle I’m facing at the moment is finding out if/how it’s possible to be able to change resolutions and colour depth.
If I can finally get over that bump in the road, I’ll be such a happy wee chappie.

So, a big thanks to everyone who’s put in the work on here. Everything from making custom install/restore images, to offering help and advice in posts (which I still have thousands to catch up on).

Hello and welcome Stwert! Don't have an answer for you as I run a MacMini.

Good luck from Somerset to Scotland!

Hello Stwert. I appreciate your research on installing OS 9. I wonder how you were able to successfully install OS 9 on the iMac G4?

the quickest access to color and resolution (among the board tools) is probably to use the drag strip module.

you can also activate to show monitor settings right in the menubar using the monitor control panel.

you will find that in both OS9 and OSX/macOS the control panels / preferences are far better structured than in windows (where it is seemingly impossible to find anything.)

the majority of modern flatscreen will work as is, unless they are too big or have weird aspect ratios. if that happens to you, there are 2 different third party extension to OS9 which can help to allow and to set more than the "recommended" resolutions/frequencies.
