cpu switch for a single 867mhz Quicksilver
« on: January 20, 2014, 08:54:10 AM »
wondering which cpus would work with this 867mhz quicksilver.. i bought it for 45$ (score)
and im really happy that its totally quiet + alot lighter then my mdd..
the only problem is that it was missing the cd drive caddy altogether. i didnt notice untill i got home with it
but i have a friend whos gonna help me find that part! (luckily)
so ill be able to get a dvd burner or rom in there..

is it worth it to even bother to switch the cpu for a higher one?
would it be compatible with a 933mhz single cpu? (im guessing yes?)
would it be compatible with a dual 800mhz QS cpu?
would it be compatible with a dual 1ghz QS cpu?
would it be compatible with an mdd cpu?

All G4 CPU's are interchangeable with these restrictions:

1− Some of the first G4 are incompatible with dual CPU's cards.
2− The MDD CPU are only compatibles with MDD (FW400,FW800 and X−Server G4)
3− The system bus speed:
One CPU put in to another computer with higher system bus implies an overclocking, and the CPU may, or may not support it.
One CPU put in to another computer with lower system bus implies a downclocking, and the CPU is goin to work at low speed

I have an PM G4 DA 466 with the Ghz dual cpu from a quicksilver'02. You have only to route a cable with 12 volts to the fourth leg of the cpu.
All Digital Audio can take a cpu from another DA. Also DA can take cpus from all the quicksilvers making the 12volts mod
Looking for MacOS 9.2.4

I personally avoid soldering and used the "Screw and nut" (Super Easy)

Also Note: In the first link, the comment about the RAM, we recommend exactly 1 GB of RAM for Mac OS 9 and a DAW, no more, many OS 9 Audio Applications have displayed intermittent errors going above the 1 GB rule.
