Where does the time come from?
« on: May 27, 2020, 04:22:05 PM »
As I told you yesterday, I reactivated that G4/AGP. It had the correct date and time (except summer time). Today I saw that there is no battery, ... !
Where the hell does this machine have the correct date and time from?! To be clear, there is no Ethernet connection, and the machine was off for several years, without battery installed. Does the EncoreST G4 perhaps provide an own date/time with own battery?

Personally, I don't know where the time goes either…  :P

From online images it doesn't appear as if the EncoreST has a timekeeper battery or typical Dallas chip (which is really just a battery in a housing). No idea where your machine is getting it's time from!

  ;D
But that is nothing where a battery is needed for, … ;)

About the network, no, no Ethernet at all, no cable, no Airport card. This machine had no network and no battery for several years, but still the right date and time.

It may be a case of hardware hacking. Compare the motherboard to pictures that you find on the internet.
