2003 G4 QS
possible Xserve single 1.33Ghz upgrade later?
you mean MDD, not QS, but yes.
are both of these options?
seritek has brief descriptions there for every product incl OS9

is there rules to what sata drives that are usable on a PATA/IDE adapter and or SeriTek card?
[/quote]
the 850 wont work at all.
and according to seritek there are a few older drives which also dont work.
the only thing i can tell is that a PCI card which natively support OS9 and OS9 booting is the option with the best compatibilty also in regards of the drives you can connect.

I have never put more than on video card in a G4 at a time.
So it is Normal... to run multiple video cards?
yeah it is no problem.
there are PCI cards such as the radeon 7200 or 7500 (?) which are affordable and "just work". unfortunately none of them has 2 outputs which supported more than mirroring.
my gef4 makes a proper picture on the second screen via ADC-to-VGA or ADC-to-DVI-I adapter (or actually on the first - because the ADC likes to be screen #1)
is there a performance hit for more than one card PCI buss sharing w/ video? vs single AGP?
you must of course decide if you really want to use your last free PCI slot only to upgrade from 2 to 3 monitors, but there are no performance issues at all.
protools users / expansion case owners keep telling me that you should not put GPUs in these boxes, because you can easily run out of bandwidth.
in the finder and applications there is no overhead from putting 3 PCI GPUs into a desktop mac and run 5 screens.
useful eGPU systems dont exist for OS9, most of them only support windows.
