Looking for guidance information and or build service (i am in SoCal)

Background:

Fully optioned ProTools 5.1 / OS9 recording studio / rig
PT5 rig established since 99' / Digital recording since dx386 / tape before that

Goals
-new fast powerful system to run my OS9 /PT5.1 MIX+ studio
-big fast storage
-dual monitor with large desktop field for editing
-no internet / no dual boot / no wifi / no frills
-only ProTools / Sample Cell / Masterlist CD / Toast / Stuffit / OS9

* ... aka making my point the hard way ...

Current g4 in Service
singe 876 G4 QS
Ti4600
1x 120gb ide boot
2x 500gb ide storage
PCI expansion card
FW800 CD / DVD drive on QS FW

direction i am considering
single 1.33GHz G4 Xserve CPU in a G4 1.25Ghz MDD, <-- do not have / do not know how to build
Ti4600
PATA / mSata evo850 128GB os9 Boot on G4 IDE
Sata card for 2x evo 850 sata3 2.5" SSD
PCI expansion card
USB3 card
Firewire800 card w/ FW800 CD / DVD drive

also
I have a bunch of 0S9 era Apple / ProTools software not in circulation
I may be able to give back to the community in some way

best practice is to upgrade to 1.5, info somewhere here

Ti4600

if you find two, pls tell me asap.

PATA / mSata evo850 128GB os9 Boot on G4 IDE

not 850, but for example 840, most WD, intenso, dogfish... msata/m.2 <= 2280 solutions exist. (nvme, too, but doesnt make much sense)

Quote
Sata card

hard to find, but if 120 USD isnt a problem for you, you can even still buy a seritek new. works driverless.

Quote
PCI expansion card

only certain chipsets and only the 13 slot boxes will work with OS9. there are at least 3 users here who have a box full of farm cards and can tell you more.

USB3 card
Firewire800 card w/ FW800 CD / DVD drive

forget it. :)

(and you shouldnt need it for DVD?)

bit confused here... the sata3 specifics on these end of line g4s is so finite
Would love to spend money on hardware that works and move on
if you have model numbers or links to a known good boot-able sata drives and card I am ready build a monster

was mentioning this as what i use
I currently have 2x working PCI expansions rigs

-need info on bootable (or non bootable) OS9 compatible sata3 card that I can "buy it now"
-info on how to get 2x high rez monitors working my TI4600 has one screen at 1080 and on at 600...wtf?
-Single or Dual CPU? is there any benifit in OS9 in PT5? or am i just making more heat?
-best base powermac / motherboard / cpu / clock speed / bus speed combo

yea thats the one.

xserve processors should fit in the last MDD SP series. clocking higher is probably useless for you if you´re a TDM user.

many here use the evo 840. i think it goes up to size of 1000 so it should be the best option.

different QS and MDD models have different need in regards of connecting more than one SSD using adapters. one os no problem. via PCI is also no problem. the forum is full or (arbitrary^^) info about the topic.

you wont find anthing with SATA3 and you wont need it - it´ll be faster than the RAM of the G4 so you only had the 600 speed for copying between buses. and i think only when it is in the PCI master bus, so not for you TDM users. :)

SATA1 is a fine upgrade to a G4, SATA 2 also exists (sonnet) but in my opinion doesnt make too much sense.

i am using 3*1920*1200, all VGA, 2 of them at the GeForce 4 MX. works well. even GeForce 2 MX would.

protools... doenst even know what dual processing is. they decided to support it not before 2008 or so

you can connect 4*2Tb SSDs to it if you think its funny.

oh btw. protools can make trouble if the partition is too big. are you aware that it uses a custom disk access and has weird limits?

Thank you for the guidance

trying to make a decision on a base system to start with for this build

my thought right now is the:
2003 G4 QS Single 1.25Ghz
thoughts???

possible Xserve single 1.33Ghz upgrade later?

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
1eVE2+2
two external Serial ATA ports and two internal Serial ATA ports
1V4
four internal Serial ATA ports
are both of these options?
do both of these boot os9 or just no boot storage?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

think I am missing some key info here
is my "in stock" Samsung mSata Evo 850 usable as a non boot drive?
is there rules to what sata drives that are usable on a PATA/IDE adapter and or SeriTek card?

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I have never put more than on video card in a G4 at a time.
So it is Normal... to run multiple video cards?
I have a bunch of them "in stock" agp and pci?
is there a performance hit for more than one card PCI buss sharing w/ video? vs single AGP?
you mean MDD, not QS, but yes.
are both of these options?
seritek has brief descriptions there for every product incl OS9
[/quote]
the 850 wont work at all.
and according to seritek there are a few older drives which also dont work.
the only thing i can tell is that a PCI card which natively support OS9 and OS9 booting is the option with the best compatibilty also in regards of the drives you can connect.
yeah it is no problem.
there are PCI cards such as the radeon 7200 or 7500 (?) which are affordable and "just work". unfortunately none of them has 2 outputs which supported more than mirroring.
my gef4 makes a proper picture on the second screen via ADC-to-VGA or ADC-to-DVI-I adapter (or actually on the first - because the ADC likes to be screen #1)
you must of course decide if you really want to use your last free PCI slot only to upgrade from 2 to 3 monitors, but there are no performance issues at all.
protools users / expansion case owners keep telling me that you should not put GPUs in these boxes, because you can easily run out of bandwidth.
in the finder and applications there is no overhead from putting 3 PCI GPUs into a desktop mac and run 5 screens.
useful eGPU systems dont exist for OS9, most of them only support windows.
