Release: PPC Media Center Fork
« on: February 25, 2020, 05:30:50 PM »
Please lower your pitchforks. I know most of the users on this forum despise Mac OS X, but realistically a YouTube downloader/streamer running natively on Mac OS 9 in 2020 probably will never happen. However, if you dual boot Mac OS X and Mac OS 9 like me, you can use PPC Media Center to download MP3’s with just your PPC Mac and then copy them over to your Mac OS 9 partition.

I have big plans for this fork. One of them is to add options to download then convert videos not only to MP3, but to other Mac OS 9 QuickTime compatible codecs. Any suggestions on the best codecs?

More information on my fork can be found on my site here:

As you might have guessed people here are very much into MacOS and not so much into OSX - still, way to go! Great to see some love for the PPC Media Center! As you may have seen, I've created Cornica and I'll gladly help you with your Quicktime codec questions, though that depends on your target machines. I'll send you a PN on that one.

This could be an awesome tool to improve the conversion process of YouTube Movies to Quicktime movies if you can get it to work. I'll download your fork as soon as I'm on OSX again (which doesn't happen too often though :) )

It may work for pr0n, but it sure doens't work for me on YouTube. It keeps giving errors.
Any help in d/l'ing YouTube would be much appreciated. TIA

I some times used, but I think Youtube has changed again their pages to drop machines that's not support their way to use the net.
But AquaWeb might help you: http://macintoshgarden.org/apps/aquaweb-aquavid
take download #2.

Thanks for replying. I don't understand how AquaWeb can help d/l'ing YouTubes.  Lots of comments on the
macintoshgarden site, but typically no instructions for installation or use.

It helps see what to download.
Then use Shuriken:

"Play YouTube Videos on PowerPC G3 Macs

Shuriken App Store → Portal → YouTube → example search → example video → Audio mode
(Headphones icon) → Download as: 144p - video/3gpp → Open With QuickTime Player"

Thanks again for trying! Perhaps my original request was not clear. Let me spell it out in greater detail:

Either a friend sends an e-mail or I read on a blog to check out these vids:
   https://www.pr0n4U/xxxx
   https://youtu.be/abcdefghijk

If I copy the first one and open PPCMC  (PPC Media Center) I AM able to d/l the mp4.
If I copy the second one and open PPCMC, I get an error. It does NOT work for YouTubes.

> (AquaWeb) it helps see what to download
I already have the URL. I need a way to download  the file.

>Then use Shuriken
The information for Shuriken states: Installation Guide  Zero
Shuriken may only be used from a live installation of Mac OS X 10.4
And I'm using Mac OS X 10.5.8

The problem has been confirmed by a number of people. Some have claimed
that they have made "patches" or "fixes".

I'm looking for a patched or fixed version of PPCMC that will work on OS X 10.5.8
that can be downloaded. I hope that is clearer than my first post.
Or even an updater (easy to use updaters existed in Sys 6. (which was my first OS) that will update
PPCMC 7.2.6 to a working version.

What I'm NOT looking for is: go to Spotlight, type Terminal, enter  pseudo/f..ck-s..ck\lib.YouTube-dl<enter>

TenFourFoxG5  and  InterWebPPC G5 are able to view videos. If you hold the Control Key down
before clicking on a video link, you have the option to d/l the mp4, by selecting "Save link as ..."
It works for pr0n, BUT it does NOT work for YouTubes!
