Ibook g4 obviously missing a step
« on: February 24, 2020, 09:58:56 PM »
Hi there first post I have a single ibook g4 late 2004 14 inch. And I have used my tiger retail dvd to terminal partition with drivers and I have used ipic tool to make it register as as I book 4,3 and in the boot selection I have HD installed with panther and and restored macos9lives can see the install CD too and in panther disc utility all are boot able I have removed the extreme card as well but I still get grey screen with the CD and the HD boot.  Hoping that you can help Pete 🤞

Well I have made some progress with this and I have managed to get it to work I used the nvram and mac os rom to boot it up then I installed the graphics fix then I installed panther on the other partition with my ibook discs which killed it so I booted it up from the unsupported CD and reinstalled it the only problem now is after installing it and putting the rom and graphics back it now from HD starts boot in 9 and then goes black any ideas for that

Latest update is I dropped back into x and copied the mac os rom on there to to the system folder and removed the latest ati driver and copied the minimal ati driver just ati via and resources and the insomnia extension and rebooted it to HD with success obviously there's an issue with with my setup and it only seems to like the standard unsupported rom and basic ati drivers. It will do for now Iam new to macs but enjoy retrossytems and got chance of the ibook on gumtree and after a month of qemu and sheepshaver I am still enjoying it and learning quite a bit as I go along  :)

Finally there when I downloaded darths ati zip and installed the drivers it went to small screen and millions of colours so I wondered since we both have the same machine if it was the file so I downloaded the sit instead and removed the old ones first and the insomnia extension and installed the ati and rebooted and was going to edit the nvram but didn't need to as I booted to desktop and played return to Castle wolfenstien okay  ;D

Power Mac G4 Digital Audio (733 MHz, 1.5 GB RAM)
Mac Mini G4 (1.42 GHz, 1 GB RAM)

LOL, glad I'm not the only one to mistype that, I'm Dearthnvader over at MacRumors forums, damned a key not even near the e or r keys.

"Dearth" and "Darth" two completely differing meanings ;D

I have PMed the Mods over there about changing it, but they don't reply, maybe admin level stuff.

Guess I just have to own it.

Just wanted to add the the iBook G4 only runs at half CPU speed under OS 9, unless you set-dfs-high in Open Firmware before you boot.

Command+OPT+O+F

Code: [Select]
dev /cpus/@0
set-dfs-high
boot

Yes you can add it to the nvramrc.
