Marvell 9235 does not work with G4 (bridge problems)
« on: January 08, 2020, 02:53:11 PM »
The attached picture looks way to optimistic.
The very cheap ($20 - $30) PCI - PCIe bridge card on eBay featuring PLX 8112 bridge does not work (panics) on everything, but Jaguar.
Did not test under 9.2.2 yet, maybe on "9" the PCIe AHCI controller will have better chances.

I did try without the AHCI controller, the result is the same, the "X" kernel code panics.

The opposite is much better: these old pesky PCI(X) cards can be accessed on "Cheese Grater" Mac Pro -s with the proper bridge.
I tried the 3124, no surprise it was accessible (albeit slow) with my bridge development board.
The commercial versions all over eBay are better.

I expect the opposite bridge (from PCI card to PCIe computer) soon, let's see how Promise ATA cards do behave.
I can certainly see the Promise cards with the above development board.

In the attached screenshot you see the 10.2.8 with the "bridge" and the Marvell 9235 AHCI controller board.
10.2.8 did not crash, everything newer on that G4 (MDD "Mystic") crashes.

Maybe Quicksilver will behave better but I don't have it yet until the end of the month.
