USB Hard Drive Issue
« on: December 04, 2019, 12:41:29 AM »
Hi All

I have a WD 1TB hard drive that I'm trying to set up so that I can use it on both my OS9 machine and on my OSX10.7.5 machine.

It's formatted as EXFAT with a single partition, but when connected to the OS9 machine it says it doesn't recognise it, and wants to format. Not a problem as it's a blank drive currently.
BUT...
when I ask it to format, it says it can't as the disk is locked.

Two questions I guess...

1) Do I need to partition the drive so that the OS9 can se it properly

2) How do I "unlock" a drive that OS9 thinks is locked (It's not locked when using it with OSX)

I'm sure these kinds of things have been discussed before.
I just tried searching the forum for info , and didn't come up with anything relevant.
If I had time to trawl I would search some more, but work is calling.
Any help most appreciated :)

had that with an SSD recently. any mac would refuse to see it because it was encryptet and locked (obviously some linux or windows shit). i had to reformat it using windows - then suddenly it worked everywhere.

Nothing against IIO and his Windoze solution,
but you might first attempt reformat via OS X…
just in case no Windoze machine is readily available to you.

AND... a 1TB USB drive on an OS 9 machine with USB 1.0 transfer rates?
Will it even recognize or actually see 1TB?

Ah yes, I'd forgotten it's only USB 1.1

Hmmm, I'll see if I've got a different caddy that'll take the drive that has Firewire.

OK, will format in windows and see how it behaves.

Want to use it as a sample library between my writing machine (OSX Laptop), and production machine (OS9.2 with PT MIX), so USB 1 will be painful.

Thanks guys
