PowerPC G3/300
« on: August 08, 2019, 03:02:39 PM »
Hi all,
I've just saved a PowerPC G3/300 tower from the skip and I've got it all up and running with MacOS 9.2.1 Its got a Iomega Zip drive in it that seems to work but I can't read my zip disks. I insert the Zip disk (MAC100) and the button of the zip drive just flashes. I¡ve got the Iomega extensions in my System/Extension directory. Do I need to install another Iomega software to use my zip disks?

Thanks,
Rob

great machine for os8.6 + 9.2
not so great for osx; but who cares ? ;)
i have the 450mhz model
if i had a 300mhz model i think id mostly use that
for older late 90s app versions

Thanks. Seems the disk is dead. I've installed the software and the drive is detected but says no disk in drive. I'll try and locate another Zip disk to test further.

Is it worth put-on on MacOS 7.5? O should I use 9.2.1 ?

Did these models have option to use a Magneto Optical Disk? MO230?

The G3 requires OS8.
If it's beige I'd use 8.1, if it's B&W I'd use 9.2.2. But it depends on what you want to do with it....

I've used it for several years with OS 8.1 and OS 9.2.2 and I found OS 9.2.2 better. But you will regret that it doesn't have built-in USB support. And the legendary accessible design may not be so accessible after all. A plus is that you can use the ergonomic mouses and keyboards from around 1990.
