Anyone have any training/tutorial material to share regarding Digital Performer 3 on OS 9? It's pretty daunting for a first time user. PDFs, eBooks, DVD rips, YouTube videos, even the DP3 manual would be nice...

i totally agree and am also interested in this.
i will see what i can find. I think i have a manual for DP4 only at the moment but alot of the concepts are the same!

this is the best one ive got and its for dp5.. but like i said i think alot of it applies to 3 i will try to find something more specified for 3

i think its possible that they never created a pdf version for 2.7 or 3..
i have just checked hte original install disks and was unable to find

have u tried using the help baloons feature inside the program?
its quite good.. and informative to learn in this way by pointing at things and reading the baloons

Excellent - Thanks for the DP5 eBook! The balloon help thing is kinda hit and miss. It's good if you already know basically what you're doing...

I discovered that Sound on Sound ran a series of articles every month starting in April of 2001 on Digital Performer:

The first article is on "Polar". They continue every month for years. Looks like 2001-2002 is about DP3(?).
There's also an index with links to the various years/month's issues at the bottom of the above link. The column is called "Performer Notes" and is under the "Techniques" section of the magazine each month. Looks like some great information.

Great thanks for all that! However..., some slight problems - not sure if it's me or what:

I can only get the last video to work, "DP4 & Reason Tutorial". The other two, nothing.

Also, I can't get ANY of the videos to play from your previous link at http://www.online-teach.com/dig-per.php. Just get a blank white pop-up screen that hangs. Same on Firefox or Safari, using Intel Mac w/10.6.8.

Same results also on my PPC G5 running Tiger.

Shame, 'cause they all sound promising...

yea the vtc.com movies seems like one of their servers is offline.. or the contents been removed

re the other two movies its possible they arent actually .mov format they could be .avi or another format
i think i actually added the extension because they were on the cd.. when i clicked them with no extension they just played automatically but i dont know what format
they actually are then
i assumed they were .mov because the 3rd one was .mov but now that i think of it the 3rd one came from the dp4 cd and the other two from the dp3 or dp2.7
either way its a real bitch to find anything prior to dp 5 as far as learning materials go

12/1/2000 dp2.7
9/1/2001 dp3
5/3/2003 dp4
4/6/2006 dp5

these are the rough dates i have for timeline for the different versions of dp.. they could be a bit off but it serves as a rough guideline..
dp3 was current for a good lone time from sept 2001- may 2003 u would think it would be easier to find stuff on dp3

Ah, ok.

Interesting, even if I change the extension to avi, mp4, etc, I still can't get them to play. Even VLC (v0.9.10), which usually plays anything, gives me the error message, "No suitable decoder module. VLC does not support the audio or video format 'twos'." Doing a little Googling, it appears that "twos" is some weird JVC camera codec(?).

Anyway, maybe if you get a disk image of the whole disk uploaded at some point, I'll be able to watch it from that...

Thanks for your efforts! The pdf DP5 ebook you linked to earlier is helping me a lot! Amazing how similar DP5 still is to DP3.

I have Muska Lipman's DIGITAL PERFORMER 4 IGNITE eBook, but my version is on the much-maligned CHM format (thought you can open these easily with apps like iChm, which AFAIK will work on PPC as well).

I would like to play with DP but only know playing in protools and logic. Looking forward your book!
