generic sil3112 with Winbond 1 Megabit/125k rom
« on: June 03, 2019, 04:50:40 AM »
just ordered one of these cards for 99cents + shipping
my plan is to try to experiment with removing the checks because this card has a winbond eeprom rather than a PMC or Macronix ; with 1Megabit size (125kB)  http://www.datasheetcatalog.com/datasheets_pdf/W/2/9/C/W29C011AP-15.shtml

it MUST be possible to achieve booting card with this rom because i just realize
my acard 6890M card; which is bootable; has a rom of half the size: http://pdf.datasheetcatalog.com/datasheets2/30/302211_1.pdf
only a 512kiloBIT ROM (64kB in size) and its a bootable raid controller (ATP865 chipset)

Looking at the components it won't probably sleep well in your Quicksilver even if you work around the ROM check.
Did you try it?

Will do that this year, 3112 + 3114 is in the waiting queue and even SImage 680.
The SImage 680 should be easy, the 3112 + 3114 is extremely tough for Digital Audio or Quicksilver machines unless you have good soldering skills: you need to replace the El Cheapo regulator with a Micrel, see the other post.

The exact part number is MIC 29150, it's 3.3 V.
The problem is that it is much larger than the small from usually AMC, same 3.3 V but different timing.

On your card this is one of the two small elements in either U18 or U14, which one I can't see because the resolution is not sufficient.
Only one of them is 3.3 V and it's usually on the chip.

Remove it and solder a Micrel 29150 3.3 V regulator. Than it will be compatible with G4 D/A and G4 Quicksilver "sleep".

quiksilver is only one of the machines i own..
i have a b+w g3 450, an AGP sawtooth 450,
a quicksilver 933, an MDD 1.25ghz
and i already have cards in my quicksilver that are
compatible with it

its great to add this info for everyone elses benefit however;
for  other owners for digital audio / quicksilver machines

i have a tempo sonnet pci, aswell as a few cloned china sil3112 cards made by a friend (who refused to make anymore because of his morals)
