this is somethign ive never seen befoer i think its a custom hackjob inserting an ide/sata adapter onto the low profile card and then attach to the pci bracket - they must have swapped out a custom bracket?

Yes... that's it. But the main issue is the bidirectional PATA to SATA adaptor. I have one and it is very unreliable. I prefer the Unidirectional ones.

i just tested my Acard 6880M (in normal mode) and it worked fine with a similar type of adapter; was able to boot and got speeds around 70MB/s; not the top performing card but works well enough; still alot better performance than in the early 2000s with built in controller (ata66 > ata133 difference)
