this is a really vague area
noone NOONE has been very clear on which card types will work for DATA ONLY
for example.. is there anyone here who has done the weibetech flash which is said to be "osx only" - ive asked many times on many different boards; and still to this day; noone has answered with a clear answer on the facts;

we need to know;
which PCI-SATA cards macos9 will RECOGNIZE; and WORK;
regardless of being able to boot from them;
for data only;

i tried to ask ProTools5LEGuy this question about the 2se4 card;
perhaps its the spanish-english language barrier but i was still unclear as to whether or not the card will work at all under macos9;

it would have been alot more clear if we had compiled a list with these headers:
Quote
card name | chip type | usable os9? | bootable os9? | usable osx? | bootable osx?

I've flashed a few cards with both SiI3112 and SiI3512 chips with the Wiebetech firmware. That one is OSX only in that not only will it not boot under MacOS9 but any volumes hosted on it will be invisible. SystemProfiler can see the card but without functioning MacOS9 extensions it remains an unrecognised PCI card.

thanks for adding that ; i had suspicions that was what would happen, but id like it very much if we could create a resource that documents this; so that noone else wastes their time buying cards that arent going to work; etc so we can get closer to figuring out modern-day solution to the need for storage expansion;

personally i still think the best option is to use an external server, running FREEBSD + netatalk(AFP) server daemon; networked via gigabit ethernet; that makes everything remotely mappable; and accessible; without limits; or special hardware neccessity ie: cards with compatible firmware
