Cheap external SATA connector:
I have disassembled an USB external hard disk and plug it to this SATA external connector.
The USB is for power only and was plugged to the onboard USB on a G4 MDD and the SATA to the external SATA of a Seritek card on the same computer. Everything worked like a charm (everything under Mac Os 9 of course). The external SATA speed was amazing.
Coping a 1.8 Gb file tooks 150 seconds and doing a file search (with Norton FastFind) tooks 11 seconds
This is the results with the QuikBench app:
Later I place the same HDD onto a Firewire enclosure and the results was:
Coping a 1.8 Gb file tooks 115 seconds and doing a file search (with Norton FastFind) tooks 19 seconds
This is the results with the QuikBench app:
Just a reference I did the same test with the same Hard disk in to the original USB external box. (USB 1 speed under Mac Os 9, as a reminder)
Coping a 1.8 Gb file tooks 36 minutes and 47 seconds and doing a file search (with Norton FastFind) tooks 5 minutes.
