Getting MacOS 9.2.2 running on G4 (2000-2001)
« on: February 19, 2019, 01:14:54 PM »
Hi there,
I am having a problem that I cant seem to figure out. I have two G4 power macs. One is a 2000 Gigabit Ethernet 500mhz DualCPU and one is a 2001 733mhz quicksilver. I don't have the actual install CD for either machine and have tried every version I've found online. The problem is the same on both machine. As soon as 9.2.2 is installed the machine freezes right after the OS loads (when the setup assistant pops up to gather system information). It appears I can install 9.0.4 on the Gigabit Ethernet without issue and 9.1 on the quicksilver but neither will go all the way to 9.2.2.

macintoshrepository has a 2002 universal 9.2.2 install CD that is supposedly confirmed to work with my 733mhz quicksilver but I'm having no luck. Does anyone here have any suggestions as to what I can do to troubleshoot? I really want a fast 9.2.2 machine up and running.

Yes, one has a 7gb boot partition and the other has 20gb.

you are using the wrong installers for the wrong machines
thats why you are having problems

READ the website here, download the universal installer.

I've had a similar issue just a little while ago (didn't figure it out until yesterday) on my Quicksilver. The system would boot to the desktop, stuff would run, but everything would be inoperable except for moving the mouse.

Here's how I was able to solve it:
  • Hold the space bar while Mac OS is starting to bring up the Extensions Manager.
  • Disable the ATI and NVIDIA-specific graphics extensions.
  • Save and reboot.

My machine has a GeForce 2 MX in it, but I just left all of those off to be safe. As far as I can tell, everything works fine without them.

Hopefully that fixes it for you.
