Power Mac G4 2000 - Illegal Instruction when booting up

Hi guys,
I'm new on this forum! I recently bought a Power Mac G4 2000 QuickSilver. It works and most importantly It boots up. When It boots up, Mac OS 9.1 starts and after the Welcome Screen It says "Illegal Instruction - Restart the Mac by pressing the shift key for disabling temporary all the extensions"(The Mac OS 9 version is in Italian). I also booted in Safe Mode and nothing, same error. Unfortunately, I don't have any Software disk from the Mac (I have only the Software Install and Restore from an iMac G3). I also tried to burn some CDs but in phase of booting hit ejects all of them. So please help me to restore this Power Mac.

There are lots of possible reasons for the error but it may not even be worth the effort to try to solve them.
Lots of questions to ask here. Do you want OS9 only or do you need OSX also?
Do you need it in Italian?

If you just want a working OS9, don't even mess with it. Just download the OS 9.2.2 image here:

This will boot your QS - guaranteed.
BUT
If you need OSX also, you should setup / partition the drive and install that first.

none of the quicksilvers are compatible with mac os version 9.1 thats probably why you are getting that error

they either came with 9.2 + osx 10.1 or a copy of X server if they were sold as server units

you need to reinstall the operating system completely
id reccommend using the original restore/reinstall cds that are specifically for your machne

if its the 733 or 800 DP (2001) version i guess there is a chance it might have come with 9.1
and that the everymac site (which has been wrong many times in past) doesnt reflect this

does the machine have some type of cpu upgrade?

So I don't need the Italian version, because English is my second language, and I don't need Mac OS X, because I have already some Old Macs that have "Dual Boot". The specific name is: PowerMac G4 - M5183 - 2000(year) - Quick Silver - 128MB of RAM - 30GB Hard Disk. I don't know what model of CPU is inside of it, but it has a pretty big dissipator. If I want to burn a CD-DVD of it, I should use a CD or a DVD? And it works with PowerISO?

why dont u start by taking photos of the machine case.. is it silver or graphite/blue?
i think u might have a digital audio machine and not a quicksilver at all

write down your serial number very carefully and then go to http://www.appleserialnumberinfo.com/Desktop/index.php
and try to put it in and take note + copy + paste what it says there
be careful to get the apple serial number correct before pasting it in to that site because u only get one try per day or something

I want to that website and I confirm that is a PowerMac G4 QuickSilver(Digital Audio) January 2001 - CPU PowerMac 7400 466MHz - Max RAM 1,5 GB - Shipped with Mac OS 9.1 or Mac OS X 10.0.3 - CD-RW built-in - 40GB from an unknown bran(Mine has a 30GB from IBM). Quick silver and digital audio are different machines and if it is 466mgz it should be 7410 cpu.. not 7400!. So if you want any help please be precise.

I have a Digital Audio in the case of a Quicksilver, so assuming it came that way from the factory, it is very possible that what the OP is trying to say is that it looks to be a Digital Audio (graphite case) but identifies itself as a Quicksilver.

Looking at MacTracker, the line between the two in terms of hardware is very thin. A 466MHz processor is always going to be a Digital Audio though.

Question for the OP: Can you boot into an OS X installation disc and look at the system profiler? There should be a row for the Model Identifier on the window that pops up. If it is PowerMac3,4 it is a Digital Audio, if it is PowerMac3,5 it is a Quicksilver.
