Trouble Installing 9.2.2 on Ti PB 1Ghz A1025
« on: July 30, 2018, 11:35:57 PM »
Hi All,

I could use some help getting OS9 on my Titanium Powerbook model A1025. I installed a 120GB HDD with two partitions: #1 is 40 GB Mac OS Extended with journaling, #2 is 72GB Mac OS Extended (no journaling). Both have OS9 drivers installed. I downloaded the four Tiger install discs off of Mac Repository and was able to successfully install 10.4 (and subsequently upgrade to 10.4.11) on partition #1. Now I'm trying to get OS9 on partition #2.

I've tried a couple different disc images for OS9 including the model specific one for TI PB's and the 9.2.2 Universal. I have tried burning them each to CD's using disk utility and then booting from the CD. Most recently I tried the 9.2.2 Universal. Booting from the CD, I ended up with an OS9 desktop with the folder for the CD opened up. When I click on "Mac OS Install" I get an error message that says, "This program cannot run on your computer. See the documentation for more information." I can't figure out what I'm missing, any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Adam

All you need is right here:

Quote
NOTE: The download folder contains BOTH the Mac OS 9 Format Archive format (922DragInstall.sea.bin) and the Mac OS X Archive format (freshDragInstall.img.sitx).  Use the OS X version only if you are running Mac OS X and cannot extract OS 9 archives.

Details: Full version of 9.2.2 for all Mac G3 and G4 Systems...

Contains: Mac OS ROM Version 10.2.1, Mac OS CPU Software 5.9 from 04.2003, Graphics Card Updates from 10.2002

As a Final Note  After the install you can run the System profiler to see what video card is in the newly setup mac and run the extensions manager to turn off the nVidia or ATI drivers that the current system doesn't need as well as any other un-needed extensions.

Cool, that worked. I'd tried this method before but I couldn't get my firewire drive to show up in target mode, and I think I was also having problems because I had extracted the file on my Macbook. But just getting the sitx file over to my Powerbook and extracting it in Tiger seems to have done the trick. I've got OS9 working on the Powerbook, now I just need to figure out how to get the internet working. For some reason it doesn't want to get on my wifi (error code 3151 I think). Anyways, thanks for the help!
