Is it possible to downgrade a dual processor 1.25ghz G4 MDD to a single processor 1.25ghz?

Sure. You just swap the CPU daughterboard.

I was reading on this site that the king of OS9 machines is the single processor 1.25ghz MDD mailnly for issues with stability for certain OS 9 apps.

You can also get a single Xserve CPU (like a 1.33) pretty cheap

On another note, I have been trying to install the Mac OS 9.2.2 Unsupported G4s.iso on this unit but the MDD won't boot from a FW400 drive that has been formatted with Mac OS 9 drivers and images with the Mac OS 9.2.2 Unsupported G4s.iso. I tried to install OS X Tiger to go that route, but keep getting kernel panics which makes me think its the memory or even the processor. I have a Power Mac G4 (2002) OS 9 install CD that will boot from the CD, but won't allow me to install it because its saying that its unsupported.
