Trouble updating 8.6 -> 9.1
« on: September 07, 2017, 12:37:01 PM »
Ladies and Gents,

Given is a Power Macintosh 9600/200, which is currently running Mac OS 8.6; according to both Everymac and Apple History, it's compatible with Mac OS 9.1. So I bought a German Mac OS 9.1 Update CD (white with a yellow "9" on it). But as soon as I insert it and double-click "Mac OS 9.1 Installation", it will tell me, "Mac OS 9 can not be installed on this computer."

What can I do about that?

Finest regards

My 'Mac OS9.1 Update CD' is for updating from 9.0, not 8.6.
You should look for a full OS9 install disk.

What are you hoping OS9 will give you over 8.6?

Dear Ovalking,

Thank you for the information. I would like to install OS 9 mainly because of better Internet support, Sherlock 2, and multiple user functionality with voice recognition.

Do you have any idea where to get an OS 9 CD in German from that works on OS 8?
