VNCing PPCs
« on: August 08, 2017, 04:20:01 AM »
i just downgraded 6 mac minis from 10.5.8. to 10.4.11 only to find out that screen sharing totally sucks in 10.4.x., it is like 3 times slower, comes in a low color resolution, and even seem to have some minor bugs.

Eyoungren from MacRumors always complains about VNC on Tiger.

Take acount Minis do not have Gigabit Ethernet as most PowerMac G4 have.

I would suggest go to Panther if it is supported. https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/the-panther-thread.2046542/

Take a look at https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/synergy-howto-keyboard-mouse-sharing-powerpc-mac-edition.2059035/
Looking for MacOS 9.2.4

thats true the g4 minis dont have gigabit, but with 10.5 screensharing-host is still brillant. - almost no difference to my intel minis which are 4 times faster (at least when you use a smaller window, in 1920x1200 fullscreen the g4 has no chance against the core2duo.)

kdx lacks full keyboard support, screensharing lacks multiclient functions and doesn remeber window size, and all proper solutions like evovia screen4 will require 10.7 and lack OS9 and windows support.

tumbuktu sucks - i have been recommended to try teamviewer... for a mixed network with one client - my last chance, or i have to give up 10.4.11 as client (which would suck)

on the hosts 10.5.8 is actually no problem. just some extra work to go back.

but i am training for thsi installation in my living room setup where i also have some minis.

here i need classic enviroment in my main computer so i would have to install 10.5 side by side with 10.4 and feel like an idiot with this. :)

what about OS9, btw.

OS9 client (vnc thing), OSX host (the usual settings for screen sharing)

how do i connect? from OS9 it says wrong password. cant i log in with my OSX user/pass? do i need to allow the "vnc guest" stuff in addition to screen sharing and remote?
