What is the difference between a d24 system and a tdm or mix system? Which one is better?

I have a small fortune, ($7000 in Pro Tools III software, I/O cards, 888/16 and another $5000 in Power Tower Pro computer and external scsi drives) invested here.
You know it was 5 weeks after I bought my system that Pro Tools went 24 bit although I had no hint of it from the sales people or their reps. Well I guess some things are about money and I truly felt left out in the cold there. Well they're giving it to us again if you catch my drift.
This exchange adds insult to injury. I'm supposed to give them back the hardware which wasn't cheap and in return get a refurbished Pro Tools / 24 system which is also outdated and no longer listed. This system will not run the new features of the latest Pro Tools software which was their reason for having you upgrade in the first place. This makes no sense. The deal stinks and Pro Tools should feel an obligation to at least give the MIX core or farm.

It seems PT III < d24 (bits)< MIX(systems)
