Now this is a 2003 iMac G4 PowerMac6,1 at 1 Ghz.
According to Accelerate Your Mac, (http://www.xlr8yourmac.com/systems/iMac_g4/imacg4_takeapart.html) I would apparently need the Intech Hi Cap driver. Not if I use OSX though. Naturally, I do not have said driver.
Sigh.
Sigh is right. I gotta learn to
always ask exactly what the hell machine we're talking about
first.
Yeah, lucky you. You have the very very last old iMac
before 48-bit ATA addressing. You might be screwed as far as OS9 goes on that drive.
FYI, even with that Intech Hi-Cap driver, you'd still be screwed -
it only runs in OSX.Anyway, Last chance: Try this:1) In OSX Drive setup, make the
first partition 128Gb or less.
2) Install OSX into the
second partition.
3) Boot and run OSX.
4) While running OSX, drag copy the OS9 System files from the CD into the first partition.
5) Drag the System and Finder out of and back into the System Folder to make certain they're blessed.
6) Now, see if OS9 shows up in "Startup Disk". If
no, scream as loud as you can and carefully smash the iMac into the smallest pieces possible. If
yes…
7) Select OS9 and restart. Happily use OS9 within the 128Gb limitation, remembering that older Mac OS files generally are way smaller than OSX-generation ones anyway, so 128 Gb will go a long, long way and it'll all be just fine.
* If you leave OSX installed, you can use it to move files back and forth between the partitions or to and from the computer and the outside world even though OS9 won't "see" any of that.
* Just don't use OSX Disk utility on the OS9 side - use OS9 Disk First-Aid only.
Holler back - If it works
I'll be amazed happy for you.
