Recycle 2.0 and SCSI Manager 4.3
« on: January 31, 2017, 09:54:40 AM »
Hi guys,

I have Recycle 2.0 and i want to use it with some samplers like my Roland S760.
The problem is that i don't have SCSI Manager 4.3, It says "SCSI Manager 4.3 Installed? No" and i read in the manual of Recycle that i need it for SCSI communications. I have a Microtech USB SCSI 25db and an Adaptec 2906 card.
So, do you know how I can get SCSI Manager 4.3?

Thank you

Regards,
Terry.

SCSI Manager is an extension that is not normally required because
i) it is built into the ROM of PowerMacs and Quadra AV models
ii) it was combined into the system file from System 7.5.3

SCSI Manager 4.3 is apparently on the System 7.5 CD.

I know nothing about Recycle, except it doesn't seem to know where to find the SCSI Manager code.

I'm not familiar with the USB to SCSI adapter you mentioned, but is it supposed to work under OS 9?
I have a Belkin FireWire to SCSI adapter that works well in OS 9 and is recognizable by Recycle to talk with my Akai sampler.
I haven't had to install SCSI Manager, just the Belkin drivers.
If it ain't broke, don't fix it, or break it so you can fix it!

Yes it's works with OS 9, i have a friend who has it but he has the SCSI Manager 4.3 Installed.
Do you have "SCSI Manager 4.3 Installed?: Yes" in the system information of Recycle ?

Maybe my Microtech is broke, I have not installed my adaptec card yet. I will try in few days.

I'll check on the SCSI manager in the next couple days and let you know.

I had rebuilt the machine I use after I was doing some re-modeling and haven't gotten to use it yet. I have not got Recycle installed yet.  I will get that installed and let you know.
The good thing about this is I can check if the SCSI Manager is there before the install just to verify.

Okay. Do you think that if you send it to me, I could install it somehow?

Are you referring to scsi manager?

So here's the the thing. I was able to look at this at work. I don't have my mac or anything at work, but I have a lot of other tools to look at the system and OS.

SCSI Manager doesn't exist as something you can install.
All the code for it is in the Interfaces library that is part of the toolbox.
So it's embedded in the ROM.
There is nothing to install or enable/disable.  It's just there all the time.
Now this doesn't solve the problem, but it eliminates having to track down something to install.

Some one correct me if I'm wrong and there is an extension, but looking at Apple programming headers and the library dumps I did from the toolbox ROM, all I can see is that it is not an extension.
If it ain't broke, don't fix it, or break it so you can fix it!

Ok i understand. So, what is the solution for me to get it?
Is it in the OS ROM?

Yes it is in the OS ROM
I'm still going to try to recreate your issue by installing Recycle with my fw scsi adapter.
Do you want me to check anything with a scsi pci card I have as well, just to verify anything?

Ok.
Yes if you can, would like to see if it appears in your choices of SCSI bus on Recycle.

I thought of a solution, if someone who has SCSI Manager on his OS, can he make me an ISO of his OS and send it to me so I can install?

Yes I installed Recycle and it found my sampler with no issues over the firewire adapter.

I'm just going to say that there is nothing you can install or enable as far as SCSI manager goes. It's so tied into the OS.  It is not an extension that can be just enabled or disabled. It is not a program you can install.  It's a hardware abstraction library that is part of the OS.
It is part of the Mac OS Toolbox.  The core to the OS since it was first written.
It exists in the Mac OS ROM file.  So if you are having an error, either there is something wrong with the Recycle install or with the USB -> SCSI adapter you have.
If it ain't broke, don't fix it, or break it so you can fix it!

Ok thank you for these informations. I will try with the Adaptec soon !

I installed Mac OS 9 using this method: http://macos9lives.com/smforum/index.php?topic=2671.0
I had fews problems to erase my drive with the OS 9 drivers so i used identitytool to have the options.

Maybe the problem comes from there?

If you need a PCI SCSI adapter I have a couple that apple shipped and I'd be happy to provide you one.

Hi guys,

I have installed my Adaptec SCSI card and it works fine. I can see that I have SCSI Manager 4.3 installed. I think this is my Microtech USB SCSI cable that does not work.

Thanks for your help !
