File menu or Application launcher Control Strip module

Is there such a thing? I don't really like aDock and DragThing and want as little clutter as possible. The control strip is allready there so it would be lovely if something like this exists. A simple menu that I can add aliases of applications I use often is good enough for me

Anyone know if this exists or do I have to make it myself?

Found what I was looking for! A control strip module putting the "favorites" menu in the control stip did the trick.
Attached it to this post so more people (allergic to adock and dragthing) can benefit from it.

is there some reason NOT to use the Apple Menu for this sort of thing? Just curious ... for as long as I can remember I've been putting alias' of my frequently used programs in there and that's where I always launch from.

i am using the regular apple menu because i dont like any of the third party replacement or add ons in that direction.

but there is one thing which you should NOT do with the applemenu:

if you put bigger archives, for example aliases to whole harddrives into the apple menu, the computer will take ages to boot up!

so if oyu want to browse volumes via a menu, use something else.

let me look into it later, it is stil not fully tested but i think i give you the last version as is.

I'm not really sure what problem is trying to be solved here.
Rightly or wrongly, I've never got into Control Stripping, so perhaps I've underestimated its value. What does it add over the Apple Menu?

What I like about the Apple Menu is, you have complete control over the type of items included, so it suits different working styles. I tend to put all frequently used utilities in there.

I don't put applications that work with files in there though. With these I put aliases along the bottom of the desktop. This permits 'drag n drop'. I also lock them to prevent accidental renaming.

exactly: first thing to do with the apple menu is to remove the originals the idiots put there. it is a place for links only.

Does this extension require that the Favorites folder be in its proper directory?

Right now i'm using BunchOApps which lets you save frequently-accessed programs. But I'd like to put more stuff in it, like frequently accessed folders, but it can only do programs.

This is where I mention that you can turn ANY folder (like the Applications Folder) into a "pop-up" with a little tab that will sit comfortably right next to the Control Strip.

I think he means the built in feature from Mac OS 8 and later. Open any folder. Now take the mouse pointer and click and hold next to the windows title. Drag the window to the bottom of the screen and it will become a tab. Really handy actually.

That's exactly what I meant. The function is also in the view menu "View as Pop-Up…"

I actually have four folders labelled "Music" "General" "Utilities" and "Graphics" that contain only aliases to my commonly used items.
That makes it possible to sort and launch anything I like without disturbing their actual locations.
Very handy.

I do it the same way! I never used the Control Strip module that long and returned to a tabbed folder with aliases of all the applications I use.

I use these tabbed folders too. (I use Malph too.) Unfortunately, these tabbed folders appear in the window menu. Is there a way to omit them from this menu?

Thank you for the comment. Ive just tried the 8th app in the list namely the Favorites CSM and I managed to install it easily and it works flawlessly. Here is  screenshot showing it in action. Problem solved.
