Has anybody tested is Finder faster and use less memory, if use only 2-bit icons at 8-bit mode?
Or is somebody even hacked Mac OS 9 or OSX to work in 2-bit mode?

This is still very much work in progress but over on System 7 Today we're trying to build up a "goodies" section with a selection of system sounds, (low-res) wallpapers, desktop patterns, startup screens ... - including icon collections. Kind of a "best of" what shareware CDs and others had to offer. I think this is what Click was looking for? Unless he's now into rolling his own :-)

Desktop Icons on System 7 Today

Just keep in mind this is really an early draft of that section.

Here are three folders I customized for me (two on my own, one is a rework of an existing icon from someone else). They are for Downloads, Games and Multimedia type folders.

They are specifically for OS 9 (and maybe OS 8.x) and no good for OS X.

finder not, but of course you have less load on RAM when you set the monitor to 16 bit color.

for hundreds of windows it might make a difference, but i wouldnt bother.
