how to proceed connecting ethernet between G4 and a macbookpro

hello everybody   i am not very  well  known about it 
is it possible to pass some files  from  my  G4 733  and his hard disk  on fire wire
connected  to an ethernet cable of 8m  connected to my macbook pro see and get the files  from my hard disk  work of the g4 ??

my G4 (2001) is in mac os 9  and my  macbookpro  in mac os 10 .7.5 (processor 2.9 ghz intel core 7) from  mid 2012

this is just my personal opinion, but iŽd always use ftp oder some p2p server/client for things like that.

otherwise you might want to search the forum for AFP.
