the midex 3 is a 2 in / 2 out usb midi interface
i remember someone telling me that the device itself was manufactured by another company for steinberg and that it really was identical to that companies own product + could therefore use their drivers..

i may be wrong but thinking about it + trying to remember what i read, im pretty sure it works with the midiman midisport drivers.

i reccomend you try it with the driver from the midisport 2x2 mac os 9 driver + see if it works! and report back your results

more info: http://macos9lives.com/smforum/index.php?topic=163.0

compare these images with the device and u can see that midiman did probably in fact produce the midex3 and that it is indeed a midisport 2x2

they just made a custom case for it that made it visually appear different on the outside branded with the steinberg logo

another image to compare the midex 3 with..
pretty sure its just one of these in a new box with the steinberg logo on the top

u see it has the same number of lights aswell + similar location of all connections

just use the midisport 2x2 driver!
dont forget to install oms!

ok u know what.. i may have been wrong.. and confused the midex3 with another 2x2 clone of the midisport

so try this file instead:
http://macos9lives.com/smforum/index.php?action=dlattach;topic=1465.0;attach=608

its a .smi.bin of the midex 8 drivers.. i just read on another site that the midex 3 + midex 8 used the same driver file..  so try this
+ PELASE GIVE FEEDBACK

UPDATE:
i checked the readme file date on this and it says july 16th 2002
so maybe that wont work at all because the midex 3 wasnt out yet then..
hmmmmm

maybe try the macos9.zip file in this directory:
ftp://ftp.steinberg.net/Archives/Hardware/Midex_8/Mac/

UPDATE: ok nope. i checked that and its the same july 16th 2002 dated file

ok i just doublechecked the announcement above is dated january 2002 from harmonycentral so it might work afterall! give it a go!!!!!

Thanks for the MIDEX 8 OS9 driver - the one from the Steinberg Archive is corrupt and does not mount.

Unfortunately, the MIDEX 8 driver does not work with the MIDEX 3.

This is unlike the Emagic driver for the Unitor 8 II - that works for all of the 'Unitor Family' including the AMT 8 and MT4 MIDI interfaces.

it should be on the steinberg FTP.

note that midex-3 and midex-8 drivers are only single-client in OSX. (not in 9)

Disc image for MIDEX 3 & 9 OS9 installers posted here:

http://www.oldschooldaw.com/forums/index.php?topic=3083.0

I had had to burn the image to CD using Clone CD on a PC to access the Mac files.
(Disc is dual format - I couldn't see Mac data on PC).

Installed driver and confirmed working with OS9, OMS, Cubase VST 5.1 32.

MIDEX and VST 5.1 first Hardware/Software combination to implement Steinberg Linear Time Base (LTB) MIDI protocol.

It would be also nice to know opposite, if Midisport 2x2 works with Steinberg midex driver Steinberg Linear Time Base (LTB) MIDI protocol.
As far I know (from Linux side) Midisport 2x2 and 4x4 has not internal rom firmware, driver load firmware into the box when started.
Anybody tested?
