how to create disk image files from Floppy installer disks
« on: August 25, 2016, 01:55:32 AM »
can we create a guide here to show other users how to copy a 1.44mb floppy disk???
lordGiffnock has a copy of logic 2.5 installer on floppy disk

can someone help teach him how to copy the disks to a .img disk image?
can this be done with disk copy 4.2? http://www.macgui.com/downloads/?file_id=23405
or would it require using a pc with omniflop? http://www.shlock.co.uk/Utils/OmniFlop/OmniFlop.htm

how would this be accomplished?

seeing as logic 2.5 was released in 1994 (i think?)
im guessing that his disks are in 1.44mb format or 720k format (and not 800k vintage mac disk format)
i hope not - because the 800k disk format thing is a pain in the ass.. buttttt.....

-if the disks are 800k format then that would complicate things even further right?
-if it does turn out to be a 800k disk, and he creates a diskcopy .img file, will that .img file be mountable/readable on a g3/g4 with no floppy drive?
-is there a similar thread discussing this topic on the macintoshgarden site possibly?

Why put Logic 2.5 on a disk image? Do you mean self-extracting archive (sea)? Installer isn't necessary. One only needs the application. Logic 2.5 is readily available.

why? because i only have a copy of logic 2.0.. and u cant patch to 2.5.4 from 2.0,
emagic logic 2.5 was a paid upgrade from emagic logic 2.0
as was emagic logic 3.0 a paid upgrade from emagic logic 2.5!! (as far as i know?)
re: one only needs the the application - of course! thats the whole point im getting at ;)
id like to install 2.5! and then update to 2.5.4,
(see this page? http://web.archive.org/web/19970429033702/http://www.emagic.de/english/updates/index.html)
according to that info there was also a version 2.6 paid upgrade so it went like this
emagic logic 2.0 > emagic logic 2.5 > emagic logic 2.6
each upgrade step cost about 100-150$ i think??? ( any users here that can confirm that?)

as far as i know, 2.5.4 + 2.6.6 were the last version of logic to be 100% MIDI Only!

what do u mean its readily available? ;)
do u have a copy?

oops it looks like it was possible to update to logic 2.6 from 2.5.. according to this disk label...
im guessing 100% native means 100% powerpc code? from back when this was a new concept..
when the switch from 68k to powerpc was new...

but this is for "AUDIO" version of logic..
im interested in the last "MIDI only" non-audio version (2.5.4?, 2.6.6?)

PM me what Logic and for what machine you are unable to find. What dongles do you have?  What are you trying to accomplish?  We'll see what we can come up with.
