help with powerbook pismo + Alesis q88
« on: November 08, 2015, 07:08:40 AM »
I am trying to use an Alesis q88 usb over midi keyboard with a Powerbook pismo running 9.2, but whenever I turn the keyboard it says it needs drivers which it can't find. I tried freemidi oms with no luck. Any suggestions what route I need to take to play this keyboard on the pismo.

Hi Greggbeater.

I'm sure you meant MIDI OVER USB.
As far as i know that needs indeed drivers so you are probably out of luck but i just saw this Midi Controller/Keyboard has a standard Midi-Out port so i would use that.
Just look for an USB Midi-interface on e-bay

Thanks Philgood, yes MIDI over USB. Yes the board does have a standard MIDI out port. And i am looking at the link you sent, exactly what I was hoping for. What is a good FREE software title to get good instruments to sample with this board. A good sounding Grand piano would be nice. Thanks again

Well...as we here are considering the offered software as abandonware you have a lot from where to choose.
I thought immediately in Native Instruments Kompakt http://macos9lives.com/smforum/index.php?topic=870.0 as that can be run in standalone mode I'm quite sure.
The link to the download includes a library but i don't know if it's more dance style oriented one and so missing a good grand piano.
Mactron always mention a Kawai sampled as his favorite...i has to be around the downloads. I'll post as soon as i'll find it.

u need to fully understand the process of setting up a studio document within oms..
oms is not the driver.. its the midi SYSTEM software... whcih often requires a pre-made setup doc / studio config document in order to be configured properly.
while oms has built in support for opcode devices + some other devices.. most other devices by other companies like MOTU + ROLAND require u to use the default setup document /studio config file .. which is a single small size file
