Forgive my naivety, but how could this work with an M1 Mac? I tried the above but to no avail.

This hack is for a previous version of PACE that ran on Mac OS9. PACE (the makers of the iLok), have gotten a bit more sophisticated since then. However, by employing a proper iPatch it is still possible to circumvent their activities, but you wont likely find that information here.
Nobody here cares - this forum is about Macs that are 20 years old or more. Good luck though.
I wouldn't say no one cares. There are likely more than a few people that frequent this local that also have newer machines.
