iBook 1.33GHz partially working
« on: September 09, 2015, 06:05:25 PM »
I didn't see anywhere that any one had gotten the last model iBooks working, but I can say as of right now it is finding os 9, loading it and get's part way through start up.
Initially it has the same issues with the video detecting two displays and showing the lcd smaller than it should.
It get's to loading extensions and then hangs.  After about a minute the cursor stops spinning and turns to a bomb cursor. At witch point it appears to be frozen.  The cursor can be moved around up to that point (though it is incredibly slow).
I'll keep working at it.
If it ain't broke, don't fix it, or break it so you can fix it!

Continuation from here http://macos9lives.com/smforum/index.php/topic,2727.msg20797.html#msg20797

As of right now it boots, the pointer is incredibly slow and no firewire and adding the extension in causes a crash on boot.

I haven't loaded any graphics drivers yet so I get the awesome tiny screen but since I am going into open firmware on every boot I just set the graphic-options to 0 so I get the full screen.

More to come!

Correction.  Firewire does work. I had ram that decided to die while testing so it was causing all sorts of crashing issues.

Hello,
Sorry to resurrect a really old topic, but is there any news on this? I have the same iBook, and I was able to boot it with the OF commands in the other topic (http://macos9lives.com/smforum/index.php/topic,2727), but of course there is no trackpad, sound or proper 3D/2D acceleration. Since the Mac Mini is working now, is there any chance the iBook might one day too?
I'm interested in testing/helping out, but although I'm an IT guy, I'm not that good at programming other than shell scripts and a bit of Perl/Python.
Thanks in advance.

Depends on the iBook you have, the one with Radeon 9200 GFX works really well, the one with Radeon 9550 works, but lots of stuff doesn't.

The iBooks with the 9200 go pretty cheap too, as most PPC's do.

Tho sleep doesn't work nor WiFi, so it kind of kills portability.

Well, tbh, neither is a priority for me, ATi drivers and sound would be.. but no matter what I copied from other images, it's not wanting to work. Even tried a few USB sound cards, but few have proper drivers (if any) for OS 9.
