Q: I have a Grappler+ Serial Board and the Grappler Serial Port is busy after system goes to sleep and will not allow access. How can I correct this problem?
This is a known issue. Workaround: Restart the computer. Open the "Energy Saver" Control Panel and click on the "Show Details" button. Set "Put the system to sleep whenever it's inactive for" to "Never". Set the display sleep and hard disk sleep to your preference.

Q: I have a Grappler+ Serial board, when I open the Apple System Profiler the Macintosh freezes. What can I do?
This is a bug in Grappler software version 1.0. It has been fixed in Grappler Serial software version 1.1.1. Click here to download Grappler Serial 1.1.1.
Q: Why am I not able to scan, or why do I get an error message when I try to scan?
You may need to update the firmware on the Grappler SCSI card. To verify the firmware version, download the Anubis Utility from http://www.orangemicro.com/updatescsi.html. Open the utility, and it will scan the SCSI bus, and display the Grappler Card. Next to the word Grappler, you will see the firmware version. The latest firmware for the 940UW is UW 3.29, for the 930U is U1.29, and for the 906F is F1.29. If you have an older version of the firmware please download Grappler Flash Update Utility at http://www.orangemicro.com/updatescsi.html. Print out the read me file that comes with the download, and it will step you through the upgrade process. Also, if you are now using the scanner on a newer operating system than your previous Mac, please check the website of the scanner manufacturer for possible required software updates.
Q: Why does SCSI probe give an error message that the chain is not terminated?
You are using an older version of SCSI Probe. Update to the latest version of SCSI probe.
Q: Why does my G4 lock up after installing the Grappler 940UW SCSI card?
You need to update the Grappler's firmware to version 3.29. To upgrade the firmware, download Grappler Flash Update Utility at: http://www.orangemicro.com/updatescsi.html. Disconnect any SCSI devices and drives before running the update. Print out the read me file that comes with the download, and it will step you through the upgrade process.
Q: I have the latest firmware for the Grappler SCSI card. Why is one or more of my devices still not working?
First, make sure that you are using the latest software for all the devices, and that you have updated any firmware if applicable. Try each device individually to see if it works before connecting the entire chain (Individual device termination will be required for this stage). Next, make sure the last device on the bus is terminated, and that each SCSI device has a different SCSI ID. Make sure that your total cable length does not exceed 1.5 meters in length. I would also recommend you remove the internal cable if it is not in use.
Q: Are the Grappler SCSI cards compatible with Mac OS X?
We are working on support for all our products for OS X. Orange Micro should have the necessary firmware update available soon. We are currently in beta for Grappler 906F and Grappler 930U. When Grappler SCSI Mac OS X support is available, it will be downloadable from the Software Updates page for Grappler SCSI products. Availability of full support for all types of peripherals may be dependent on appropriate OS X development documentation from Apple Computer.

Q: Are the Grappler SCSI cards compatible with Windows machines?
No, the firmware on the cards only work with Macintosh and Macintosh compatibles.
Q: When I try to boot my blue and white Mac from my Grappler SCSI card I get an open firmware error and am prompted to type "Mac-boot". After typing Mac-boot, and then pressing return, the Mac still will not boot. How do I correct this problem?
You need to update to version 1.29, or later, of the Grappler firmware. Please download the Grappler Flash application from http://www.orangemicro.com/updatescsi.html. The Grappler Flash Update Utility is the only file you will need to download. Disconnect any SCSI devices and drives before running the update. Print out the read me file that comes with the download and it will step you through the upgrade process.
Q: When I copy files to or from a HD connected to the Grappler, my Mac locks up.
Try turning Virtual Memory ON from the Memory Control Panel. If this does not correct the problem, boot the system with EXTENSIONS OFF (hold down shift key on boot). Then use the Anubis software (available at http://www.orangemicro.com/updatescsi.html ) to initialize the HD attached to the Grappler. See if that configuration works. If it does, try rebooting with your normal extensions loading, and perform your file transfers to see if the problem has been solved.
Q: My Iomega drive locks up my Mac or does not mount.
You should first make sure you are using the latest software from Iomega. Also make sure you have the latest firmware for your Grappler card. To verify the firmware version, download the Anubis Utility from http://www.orangemicro.com/updatescsi.html. Open the utility, and it will scan the SCSI bus and display the Grappler card. Next to the word Grappler you will see the Firmware version. The latest firmware for the 940UW is UW 3.29, for the 930U is U1.29, and for the 906F is F1.29. If you have an older version of the firmware please download the Grappler Flash Update Utility at http://www.orangemicro.com/updatescsi.html. Disconnect any SCSI devices and drives before running the update. Print out the read me file that comes with the download, and it will step you through the upgrade process. Also try turning virtual memory on from the memory control panel.
Q: How do I find out if I have the latest firmware installed on my Grappler?
To verify the firmware version, download the Anubis Utility from http://www.orangemicro.com/ updatescsi.html. Open the utility and it will scan the SCSI bus, and display the Grappler Card. Next to the word Grappler, you will see the Firmware version. The latest firmware for the 940UW is UW 3.29, for the 930U is U1.29, and for the 906F is F1.29. If you have an older version of the firmware please download Grappler Flash Update Utility from the link above. Disconnect any SCSI devices and drives before running the update. Print out the read me file that comes with the download, and it will step you through the upgrade process.
Q: I have the latest firmware on my card, but I still can not boot from a device attached to the card.
I have noticed this with the G3's (Blue and White) and G4's. They will not boot off a drive unless
the OS was installed on a blue and white machine or G4. Try doing a system Clean install from your Mac OS CD onto the drive you wish to set-up as the boot drive. After install, reboot the machine and eject the CD immediately after reboot. The Macintosh should boot from the hard drive now. If you still have trouble, try re-flashing the card and make sure you do not have any SCSI devices plugged in during the update.
Q: How do I get my Zip Plus to work with the Grappler card?
We have tested the Grappler cards with the Zip Plus and found that it will work fine, but you need to use a termination plug to terminate the cable.
Q: Are the Grappler cards compatible with a G4 Power Mac?
The Grappler SCSI cards are compatible with all G4 Power Macintosh systems that Apple is currently shipping.
Q: I get the message "Your PCI bus was left powered on because you have a PCI card installed which does not support removing bus power during sleep. Apple System Profiler may have more information about the card." What should I do?
When the computer goes to sleep, as a function of Power Manager 2.0, power to the PCI bus and the system fan are turned off to conserve energy. Since the Grappler SCSI cards do not support the "PCI Power Down Mode", the PCI power will not be turned off. However, the Macintosh will sleep as all previous Macintoshes have in the past.
Previous firmware the Grappler SCSI cards did not support "Power Manager 2.0 Deep Sleep mode", Grappler SCSI cards now support Apple Power Manager 2.0 Deep Sleep mode. Click Here to download the appropriate firmware updater.
Q: I get the message "your Grappler SCSI card is not flashable" when trying to update the firmware.
The first run of grappler SCSI 906F cards used an EPROM instead of a flash ROM. To upgrade to the latest firmware under the one year warranty you will need to contact our support team, and we will make arrangements to have your card replaced with a flashable card. An out of warranty card will require a $25.00 exchange fee to replace it for a flashable version. Contact our support team for either solution.
Q: As soon as I attach a device to my Grappler card , my G4 will hang on boot.
Please download the latest version of our Grappler flash utility from our web site (http:// www.orangemicro.com/updatescsi.html). Disconnect any SCSI devices and drives before running the update. Next, follow the instructions in the read me file that is provided with the update to flash the card.

to get this card to work in 10.3.9 OSX as well as OS9

Flash to 1.35 at least, you have to do this in OS9

then grab this driver : https://web.archive.org/web/20051225045411/http://www.initio.com/drivers/Advansys/AdvanSys9andXMac.hqx

the drivers on the orangemicro site do not work but this does

install ASC3050.pkg

you will now see devices on the scsi bus via 'system profile'.  So far, i have managed to get SCSI CD drives to work but not scanners.

two of these cards, with serial port, up for grabs on Ebay, located in the US of A

Anyone know if they work with later G4s?  I have got my scsi only grappler to work with my MDD but not sure if the serial port will work.
