its like a "lite" version of Galaxy.. budget version.
galaxy is the real deal.

i believe it should..
remember galaxy + vision are both apps from the early-mid 90s
they predate all the usb macs by a longshot

would be interesting to use galaxy or this to use wavestation/m1 editor and see if it works with the virtual korg vst version connected via midi to a VST host running on osx

I'm old, but to the best of my recall, Galaxy is happy in System 7. I think the practical "boundary" is that it needs Multifinder to work effectively.

The "Edit One" stuff were brief "bridge" products that were replaced with Galaxy when it became apparent that A) MIDI was really taking off and B) Lots of people were accumulating lots of different synths as a result. The basic code in the Edit Ones and Galaxy Editors is very similar.

One other difference that I can't swear to is that the Edit One's might work without OMS. I definitely had a "MIDIMac DX Editor-Librarian" that ran on a 512k !

gary.. one of the claims of the korg legacy/digital colllections was that it supported the very same midi spec + even sysex codes

Let's see… an obsolete software editor running on a deprecated platform connected to an emulation of a vintage synthesizer using two computers running different operating systems…three days later you've got a perfect imitation of the old cowbell in the back of your closet. Much better than the original because you can quantize it.

Relax, I'm kidding. It sounds like a fascinating experiment if you've got all of the pieces and the time.
You'd have to add in a MIDI data stream monitor between the computers though. If it didn't work that's the only way you'd be able to determine which end was causing the problem. You are fluent in MIDI and MIDI Sysex, aren't you?

question is.. is it easier to edit parameters on the vst screen - usually it all depends on what makes sense to YOU. use whatever works.. alot of the times theres features of a ui that people just dont know how to use properly....

AFAIK, yes, the Legacy M1, etc will load SYSEX files from the real hardware. This is true and have tested it I have the Legacy collection inc the M1 as well as a real M1Rex.

I have never tried to use the Legacy over MIDI nor send SYSEX to it, though, as if it were a real box... just done the odd file upload from the menu instead.

I have the latest versions of both Galaxy+ and Vision running on System 7. Plus Logic 3 Platinum, Sound Diver 2 and an older Pro Tools 4.3 install (I boot into OS8.6 for PT5.1 mainly though).

I'm telling you guys... I've had less crashing and faster speeds on a 300mhz System 7 machine than I ever did a G4. I don't use VSTis though, I'm 100% hardware with only the occasional noise gate TDM plug or something.

Wow Syntho, that's awesome, now that you have been running this system for a while, and it is a proven success, maybe you can make a brand new post and describe the system, all the changes you made (like video drivers); and give us documented details on the whole setup

I've been meaning to do that for a long time now. The problem is that I spent months tweaking and tweaking that damn thing and I've forgotten most of what went into it. I have the drives cloned with fresh installs so I only have to restore them to get back up and running.

I'll see what I can do though. It'll be a rather long post.
