plugged the drive into my imac 2008..
the partition was not mounted automatically there either
i had to go into disk utility and force it to mount

is this because i had unmounted it previously + its remembering the setting? or something?

wierd

1) Did you used HDST (Hard Disk speed Tools) to Originally Partition it ?
2) Did you use OS X or OS 9 ?
3) HD Actual size (500GB) and partition sizes ?

its a WD passport fw800 drive with a fw400 adapter
single partition 500gb

i got it to mount on the imac..
it used to work fine on os9 (and 8.6 with the os9 fw extensions overwritten the 8.6 ones)

that why i was wondering if there a preference for it to mount or not.. when i plugged into the imac it showed up in disk utility but didnt mount automatically

There might be something wrong with your fw800 to 400 adapter. Does it use an external power supply or is it bus powered? I am reffering to the hdd.
