flint flame fire inferno and all this stuff was IRIX-only for many years, but the technology contained in it has then also made it to several products on mac and windows. luckily, because the SGI platform today has nothing special to offer and most high end graphics cards now also work with apples and dells. :)

the discreet software website, where they were selling their photoshop plug-ins, was one of the best looking website in the universe.

it was pure unix because back then you had to buy a license for your unix operating system as well and that was expensive besides the hardware 1 machine could bring you in the 100k's easy.

some of their models had up to 512 processors and you could also use dozens of graphics cards and link them.

but that was like 1995, and today you can do the same with free software based on coreanimation and coregraphics and a minimac. :)
