matrox mac drivers.. compatible with which matrox cards?
« on: April 03, 2015, 08:39:06 AM »
http://www.matrox.com/graphics/en/support/drivers/previous/mac/

does this mean this driver only works on the specific version of matrox millenium specifically for pci powermacs?

or does this mean that any matrox card, if loaded with this "BIOS" can work?

i think it may mean this card:

which features the older mac video interface from beige mac era (97-98)

i have right now a matrox g450 on my windows 95 box that i have an sb awe32 running on (now with 30mb sampling RAM!)
and the color is quite crisp!!

It says
Quote
Millennium for PCI

This is a PCI card.

I have the AGP version with 2 VGA and a G400 chipset, I think. Called ProMax DH

http://www.xlr8yourmac.com/Graphics/promax_dh_max/Promax_DH-Max_dual_output.html

But I can't find these V 2.0 drivers

Quote
Version 2.0 Drivers: - There's a 2.0 driver update for the Promax DH Max dual monitor AGP card available now:

" The new 2.0 release of the DH-MAX(tm) drivers are available now for download for Registered DH-MAX users only. Video out on the second head using supplied composite/s-video cable is now working. This enables you to extend your desktop applications or video out to an external monitor or NTSC/PAL monitor. Included in the new release: improved video acceleration, new QuickTime acceleration, and DH-MAX control panel.
The DH-MAX control panel lets you:
-Check ROM versions for the card
    -Update your ROM
    -Check acceleration
    - Adjust the Hue, Saturation, Brightness and Contrast for Composite/S-video output only.

Possible Configuration Options with the new 2.0 software:
    Two RGB monitors
    RGB+ Analog Flat Panel
RGB monitor + NTSC/PAL Studio Monitor
RGB monitor + analog Flat Panel
Analog Flat Panel + NTSC/PAL Studio Monitor
    Two analog Flat Panels

That card was bundled with MDD and PT HD2 systems on OS9...

i dont think a driver is dedicated to a port/slot
the driver communicates with found hardware

In the case of the DualHead, there were 2 drivers AFAIK.

*Please contact [email protected] for downloading instructions. Write "DH-MAX software update" request in the header of your email. "

Here's a clip from the readme file:

    What's new since 1.0:

    - QuickTime acceleration: no more dropped frames playing movies in Adobe Premiere, Final Cut Pro, Movie Player, etc.

    - Enhanced QuickDraw acceleration: faster screen drawing

    - Support for video (NTSC/PAL, composite/s-video) on the second display head: use the included video cable for the second head, and new "video" resolutions will appear in the Monitors Control Panel to allow output to NTSC & PAL

    - Fixed drawing errors that caused incorrect colors in DigiDesign's ProTools

    - New DH-Max Control panel that is used for updating the flash rom, getting information about driver revisions, controlling second head video output parameters, etc.

    What's still in the works:

    - OpenGL support

    - Support for Apple's DVD Player

    - More QuickDraw and QuickTime acceleration

A reader commented on good Cinema4D performance. (I can only assume it's running in software mode however since the readme file notes OpenGL support is still in the works):

" Open GL is working great in Cinema 4DXL 6.3. I am running on 2 19" Hitachi monitors at 1024 x 768 x millions of colors.

I can change the colors and textures on an object and get a live update without rendering. FCP 1.2.5 is also working great on 2 monitors.

They suggest there is no Open GL for the matrox...

I better use my Asus GForce 2 MX 400.

that card was never meant to be for gaming. more like screen extension for video and maybe protools (audio production environment)

It has a good colour, but just that.

http://www.xlr8yourmac.com/Graphics/promax_dh_max/Promax_DH-Max_dual_output2.html

It seems slower than a Rage 128 pro on some tests.
