HyperCard is a complete scripting language / app that pre-dates Applescript. Using scriptable buttons and graphic objects, you could develop surprisingly sophisticated routines from simple macros to, well… complete slideshow product demos, for example. An internet search will yield lots of downloadable, interesting and useful HyperCard stacks.
It's fairly easy to grasp and undoubtably inspired more than one budding code monkey in its day. It requires very little memory to run which was perfect for the early 68k machines. It's still very useable and handy under OS9 for stuff that's say, a little too much for QuicKeys or…? Plus, it's FUN!
I don't have an original HyperCard CD ROM, but I have most or all all of the ingredients. I'll put together an upload to the OS9 Utilities Board tonight.
