I just have some of my EXS24 collection.

Heart of Asia Vol 1

Bass Legends Vol.2

Drums And Percussions

They are AKAI CDs

Are DieHard and MacTron ok with uploading AKAI to Adrive?

We should migrate AKAIs to other places like yo mentioned earlier on the 2015 moving... post

Looking for MacOS 9.2.4

@ superNova777

I still have some AKAI discs around, stuff I burnt ages ago. If you let me know how I can rip them on a Mac or a PC, I'll be happy to upload a few! "Burning Grooves" is really cool, for instance. Also the "London Choir".

Could I also use Adrive for the UL?

you would have to sign up for your own Adrive account. which of course u are free to do. but i suggest u use mediafire because its free! 50gb or any other free filesharing service

it would be great if we could get some momentum going with sharing sample cds... as everone knows they can be converted with chicken sys etc and a number of the tools here can read them natively too i think?

@ widter

Probably the best app for this copying in macos9 is cd-copy.
If you're using a G3 or G4 you start up the program (before putting
any Akai disk in to the CDROM) and all disks are ejected - Put in the
Akai Disk and Cd-Copy does the recognizing - after it has done this
then drag the file from CD-Copy window to the desktop and Cd-Copy
saves the Disk as an image - All Akai discs are recognized and ripped
as an image. You will not be able to mount the disk - Apples CDROM access
and foreign file access will not show the Akai Disk in the finder.
This image can be written to a CD in Toast from the Disk Image Menu.

PS. if the Disk is damaged and there are errors reading it go to Preferences
in CD-Copy File or Edit menu and tick the box - Ignore Read Errors. IT will still
finish off the disk but one danger it can take a long time if the disk is badly damaged
as the program tries to make sense of the bad Disk.

The disk image is the best way to save Akai Disks because everyone can then convert
it to what they need later.

Hope this helps.

I remember posting that. I wish there were a way to actually mount the Akai disks but I never found a solution. CDXtract does a good job at what it does but it's WAY more convenient to just mount an Akai disk and browse it/play it with Kontakt or EXS. The ultimate solution was just going through all of my stuff on another system and not needing to preview anything anymore, then just using my CDs in an actual sampler.

cant u preview them with cdxtract aswell tho? without doing the actual conversion? isnt that what u wanted to do? just to browse them + preview them?

I don't ever remember being able to preview them, or at least preview the actual instrument. Maybe it has a sample preview thing but it can't load entire instruments.

As discussed before.... and mentioned before...

HALion will mount Akai CDs in the import section and you can see and preview all the associated Samples even if you do NOT want to actually import them (all in Mac OS 9)

I have a folder with 150+ Akai CDs... some quite old... if you have a particular need, let me know and I will image a few... I am NOT going to image all of them :(

I don't remember exactly how this went, but there was a certain configuration I was running where the OS itself wouldn't mount anything. Kontakt and EXS can read them just like Halion, but I couldn't even get that far since there was a system notice that wouldn't go away. It couldn't even get to the software reading it since the OS would block it. Or something like that.

DH: I'm curious to know which ones you've got there, at least a list of them. I've collected sample CDs for a long time now and have bought all the ones I'll use, but some are unavailable. If there's one I need I'll buy it from you... along with those DA-38 machines once you offload them  :)

Hi Diehard I have enclosed a few jpegs of the ones I have - if you have them then don't bother imaging these ones if you have got any of them. Ill just find a space for them.
Some of the ones I had were hopelessly broken and I couldn't do anything about the data even after trying to polish the surface. Some of these were parts of the collection I had on the list too.
