tascam us428 signal problem.
« on: February 19, 2015, 11:17:50 AM »
Hello!
I've recently fired up my us428 after a couple of years. I'm running os9 and cubase 5. Its all installed and configured correctly I think, Ive used it lots in the past. But now I can't get any signal to or from it. The midi controller is working fine but I can't even get a signal light when I plug a jack into it. Also when I play a click track there's no sound from the line output or the headphones. Anyone else had similar problems ? Any help is greatly appreciated!

Hi Chris, thanx for your reply,
All your questions check positively, my oms is 2.3.8 and I have tried both USB ports, currently using no1.
(I am using a g4 PowerBook btw, its dedicated to cubase and has little other software installed)

I've tried a different cable and like I say the midi controlling is fine , does that tell us the port is working fully?

u need to check the sync settings of the device in whatever utility is provided for the audio interface driver

it may be stuck in a specific mode which u have to disable/enable such as SPDIF digital sync etc
i dont have one of these interfaces so i cannot be absolutely sure

personally if im having trouble with a device i always test it on another os + ensure that its exhibiting the same results..
ie: try setting it up on windows, try setting it up on mac os x..
to verify whether or not its a hardware defect or a software problem

Maybe i have an idea of  what is happening here.
Go to the controllpanel. There is an option to put the tascam as midi-controller-only , without audio functions.
Maybe you have to put it into audio-midi mode.
Hope it's only this.

OK ,so, the problem was the power supply adaptor.. The replacement matched the specs of the original but only acquiring a genuine model has worked and its firing on all pistons 😁😁

Can you post a picture of original specs vs "clone" ?

Only with Boss-guitar pedals I had the trouble of " not working good" with an similar PSU.

But PSU are PSU. A 5+ volts PSU with 1 A. is a 5+ volts PSU with 1 A.  ;D

For PSU you always have to look Voltage, Amperage and Polarity.

For example, most BOSS guitar pedals need +9 volts, 0.2 Amp. and the negative tip inside (positive outside). But the delay pedal need 0.5 or 1 amp to work right.

Most Yamaha-Sennheiser need +12 volts, 0.5 amp and the negative tip outside(positive inside).

Boss vs Yamaha have opposite polarity. I hope you get what I mean.

Other trouble can be the shape of the PSU jacks. That is the reason generic PSU for portables have more than 6 shapes

Looking for MacOS 9.2.4

In that picture you can see the TASCAM uses AC instead of DC for the PSU...No polarity trouble.

In this forum http://homerecording.com/bbs/user-forums-by-brand/tascam-user-forum/us-428-power-supply-information-318292/ says AC Adaptor PS-P428 (7.5 VAC, 1000 mA)

Any AC/AC PSU from 220 or 110 to 7.5 with more than 1 A should work.
